Jean Do Cardi is a street opera singer, originally from Corsica, currently living in Paris. He has been dedicating more than thirty years of his life to music, performing for inhabitants, tourists but most importantly, for himself. No luxurious stage, spotlights or orchestra, Jean Do enjoys taking advantage of the urban nature, its bustling rhythm, sounds and architecture.
He is particularly fond of one place located in the Marais district, the arch of Rue de Béarn close to Place des Vosges, where he was informed of the death of both his parents. According to him, performing here has become a way to feel their presence and connect with them.
There is a deep devotion to his family members, which are not alive anymore or live far away from him. His apartment could be described as a small temple preserving numerous emotional family keepsakes, gifts and personal artistic creations; starting from walls and furniture, intricate layers of objects, statues, paintings and photos spread in every direction and inch of the living space.
A protective and familiar shell, establishing a bridge between his past life surrounded by loved ones and his present.
I discovered Jean Do by chance during a daily walk in the Marais district in September 2023 and collaborated with him for two months, starting from March 2024. This project aims to share the often unseen reality of street artists, offering viewers a glimpse into their lives while inviting them to connect on a more intimate level.
